BUILDING A PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER IS MORE BETTER THAN BUILDING A CLASS ROOM.

BUILDING A PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER IS MORE BETTER THAN BUILDING A CLASS ROOM.

My dear, that to whom it may concern, please be patience with what I have been saying that to build a primary school teacher is more better than to build a shelter for learning, because if you are not a primary school teacher in Nigeria you would not understand what I am going to say now, but you will realize that in the near future. As you all known, A good and qualified primary school teacher is the one who Carry out all his duties and responsibilities. He is the one who have an appropriate skills, knowledge, endurance and social abilities to enable the optimum development of innocent Students in consonance with their ages and build daily lesson plans, deliver effective lessons, execute grade tests, assignments and review home works, and get through student assessments, under guideline of the School Curriculum. In order to achieve the above duties, he must to be special and happy and he must not be entangled with many problems, like food, shelter and clothes. Unfortunately, today in Nigeria, a primary school teacher has been chained with so many problems like hunger, destitute conditions, financial difficulties, malnutrition, stresses, emotional disturbances and anxieties which are not unconnected to poor wages and lack of promotion for several years (a primary school teacher can spend up to 11 years without being promoted) and still doing his work. In this Pitiful conditions, a primary school teacher is always confused, frustrated, thinking and looking for food. He manages poor shelter, trekking long distances on bare feet with empty stomach.
My dear,in this terrible conditions, how can a teacher prepare and deliver effective lessons?
It has clearly showed that no any educational goal will be achieved by either Government or Non Governmental Organization, no matter whatever type of programs will be introduced. Nothing will be achieved Until the welfare of primary school teachers is restored.
It also clearly highlighted the shortcomings and failure of NGOs in Nigeria especially those who are engaged in educational matters, so many NGOs in Nigeria are only focusing and putting more effort on building shelters like: classrooms, toilets, school libraries and renovations, rather than welfare of teachers those who became backbone and father of impacting knowledge, those who always engaged with clamour, headaches, dancing, singing in front of children, those whose always pay their attentions on converting children from negative behavior to positive behaviors. It is lamented and unfortunately in Nigeria today, especially in some northern part of the country children can complete primary school Without even Knowing how to write their names. The classes and buildings are there, Instructional materials are there, the duration of each period time is also warranted, But the challenge here is only frame of the body of the teacher is there. His mind is absent, because he have no Peace of mind, his mind is struggling for food, he always think and lookS for breakfasts, dinner, launch and transport. How this restless hungry person who have no Peace of mind can produce a good and competent student ?
My Dear Let me recast your mind back for a short moment. if we go down to history lane of our past educational philosophers like John Dewey, plato, Aristotle, Karl Marx, Theodore, Maria Montessori and other educational philosophers had studied at the base of the tree or an open place but had a competent teachers and there teachers were absolutely in Peace of mind and tranquillity and had abundance of basic necessities. There were no struggle for food and shelters.
Nigeria have good and competent teachers but they are not being promoted and motivated, and they are neglected. These bring great problems in revitalizing educational sector in order to achieve educational Goals especially at primary level.
For these reasons, I wish to draw attention of both Governmental and non Governmental Organizations To collaborate with each other to make a special Convention on how to promote and bring back a qualitative basic primary education in Nigeria. Finally I hope this little Piece of information will benefit my lovely country Nigeria. Thank you.
